Weaving Landscape is the fourth volume of the Arte y Currículum Collection, a series of publications for the educational community that explores different fields, disciplines and methodologies of artistic creation in order to reimagine the relationship between contemporary practices and the knowledge of the school. The book starts from an observation: schools tend to teach abstract content disconnected from the place where students live. It proposes the opposite: starting from the immediate surroundings —the schoolyard, the neighbourhood, the village— and from the knowledge of the people who inhabit them, in order to research them and turn them into artistic creation.
Landscape is understood as a shared space, built collectively, of which the school is part. Through situated practices, students connect with the ecological, social and cultural processes that run through their territory. Local knowledge is not treated as closed folklore but as a living material that nourishes those who inhabit the place, and art acts as a tool of inquiry that intertwines ecology, social relations, intangible heritage and geography.
